Port Aransas Trip

Earlier this month, Mom & Dad took the four of us to the beach. Aidan & Nander got their first beach experience. Not many pictures; didn't want sand and saltwater near by equipment.

On the drive down there, Nander asked if there were lobsters on the beach in Port Aransas. Me: "No, Nander, there aren't. It's not that kind of beach." Nander: "What about crabs?" Me: "No. No crabs." Nander: "What about monsters?" Me: "No." A couple of days later, he complained that his foot was itchy. I tell him he's just feeling sand in his water shoe. Got him out of the water, and lo and behold, caught in the netting of his little water shoe was a tiny crab the size of a dime! Nander: "I told you so, Mommy!"

We had a nice 2 bedroom condo with a view of the beach. And a huge balcony. In the palm tree next to the balcony was a pair of birds trying to make a nest. The straws kept falling out of the nest. And the one who kept flying to the ground to get material for the nest was the pickiest bird I have ever seen! Just about every thing he picked up with his beak, he spat it back on the ground.

Nander was leery at first about going in the ocean water, but once in, he was hooked. He liked to wait for each wave to approach, and then he would try to jump over each one as it got to him. Even better was to have one of adults 'help' him jump super-high to get over the waves.

We saw jellyfish washed up on the beach and in the water a few times. In fact, we think one may have brushed against Aidan. He wasn't screaming bloody murder, but he kept slapping his upper leg and saying it itched/burned/something. He had a welt or irritated area of some sort on that spot.

We rode the ferry twice. Pretty awesome! The lines weren't too bad. Supposedly they can get to over 45 minutes long.

While in line I noticed bunch of seagulls ALL facing in the same direction. I know it's due to the strong wind. Nonetheless, still strange to see!

And no ferry line is complete without 'facilities'!

We also took a trip to the Aquarium in Corpus Christi. Aidan asked zillions of questions of the various staff about the different sea creatures there. He even got to touch a sting ray. He says it felt like leather. Nander wasn't as quite as adventurous, but he enjoyed watching the sea turtles swim around in their tank. And a whole school of fish swimming in circles in a narrow tube fascinated him as well.
